A 28 year old male contract cleaner and a 39 year old woman were charged with thefts allegedly committed between October last year and this month at Brisbane.
Police officers searched the homes of the suspects and recovered stolen property. Police allege that the cleaners stole items including a laptop computer, more than 60 DVDs, alcohol and other personal belongings.
Following their arrest, the JAIT carried out searches on their vehicles and residences, seizing a number of items from one house.
The Eagleby man was charged with three counts of stealing goods in transit contrary to Section 398 of the QLD Criminal Code Act 1899.
The Daisy Hill woman was charged with seven counts of stealing goods in transit contrary to Section 398 of the QLD Criminal Code Act 1899.
The maximum penalty for each of these offences is 10 years imprisonment.
JAITs were implemented as part of the 2005 Wheeler Review into airport security and policing, providing a full complement of policing functions under a single command structure at five major international Australian airports.
JAITs are designed to enhance intelligence within the Australian aviation industry by providing a dedicated policing presence to target criminality and security issues at Australian airports.
