BIOGRAPHY – MICHAEL TRIMBLE
Since starting his career in karts at the age of 13, Michael Trimble has continually developed into one of Australia’s brightest young motorsport stars.
In late 2002 he moved into the ranks of open wheel circuit racing in the Formula Ford category, despite having limited experience in the tricky single seaters Trimble showed he was more than capable of piloting them at great speeds.
During his rookie year in the Australian Formula Ford Championship Trimble achieved some impressive results. Running with the highly fancied Sonic Motor Racing outfit Trimble was showed maturity well beyond his teenage years to record some impressive results in 2003.
In 2004 Trimble had an up and down year in the Australian Formula Ford Championship. He finished the year equal on race wins with the championship winner, however, his overall result in the championship was affected by a number of incidents throughout the year.
The next year Trimble made the move into Formula 3 where he would contest the Australian Driver’s Championship. He made a lasting first impression in the category by lowering the lap record at Adelaide’s Mallala Motorsport Park in his first test.
Trimble continued his impressive form throughout the year to finish runner-up in the championship. He was also awarded the Rookie of the Year trophy and would return as one of the favourites for the 2006 championship.
Despite recording six wins and a total of 23 podium results from 32 races in the 2006 championship Trimble fell just shy of his desired aim in 2006 and finished behind the experienced Englishman Ben Clucas in the overall standings.
In 2006 Trimble made the move into the Porsche Carrera Cup Championship with Paul Cruickshank Racing. The one-make series is held in conjunction with the V8 Supercar Championship Series highlights the talent and ability of the driver. Throughout the year Trimble impressed many onlookers to finish on the podium and also record the Rookie of the Year crown.
Trimble is now focusing on the next step in his flourishing career as he climbs the motorsport ladder into the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series. |
